Welcoming Dr. Cara Courage
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Cara Courage has joined us as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees at Phoenix Art Space.
Dr Cara Courage is a renowned placemaking leader, cultural and creative sector consultant-director and researcher. Her passion for and dedication to people and place has led her to specialise in practices that are socially-engaged, community-led, and in embedded in place, whether that place be a team, a city park, a national museum or a rural town high street, doing this as a consultant, practitioner, researcher and writer. Her most recent project is ‘Trauma-Informed Placemaking’, with Dr Anita McKeown, a research platform and forthcoming textbook (Routledge, 2023). Cara is Editor and Convenor of The Routledge Handbook of Placemaking (Routledge, 2021); Co-Editor of Creative Placemaking and Beyond (Routledge, 2018); and author of Arts in Place: The Arts, the Urban and Social Practice (Routledge, 2017).
Of her appointment Cara says – “I am delighted to be joining the Phoenix Art Space team as Chair of its Board of Directors. Phoenix has long been at the heart of Brighton and Hove’s creative life, and I am honoured to join such a dynamic and innovative organisation and excited to work alongside the talented team to further enhance its impact and reach across the city and region. With a long-standing tradition of fostering creativity, providing a platform for local artists, and engaging the community through a variety of programmes and exhibitions, Phoenix is looking forward to a bright and inspiring future. I look forward to playing my part in ensuring that Phoenix Art Space remains a cornerstone of artistic expression.”
