Selected Platform Nominee Announced
We are delighted to announce that we have selected Ainoa Burgos Gonzalez as Phoenix Art Space’s nominee for the Platform Graduate Award 2021. Ainoa was chosen by a panel consisting of Executive Director Sarah Davies and exhibition curator Jenni Lewin-Turner of Urbanflo Creative.
Ainoa is a multidisciplinary artist who encompasses sculpture, installation, performance, video and photography. With a variety of materials she explores bodies and their environments. The themes explored through her work are varied and often socially engaged, including subjects such as Western beauty stereotypes, personal space, environmental and visual anthropology.
“We’re really impressed with the uniqueness of Ainoa’s practice, and the work that she has brought to Phoenix Art Space. The experience of smelling the food, walking on the soil and reading the recipe books conjures up a way of working that I haven’t seen.” – Sarah Davies.
Ainoa will join a shortlist of four graduates, all nominated by their exhibiting venues Aspex Portsmouth, MK Gallery and Modern Art Oxford.
Created by CVAN South East the Platform Graduate Award includes a £2000 bursary and 12 months of mentoring support from a practicing artist. The winner of the Award will be announced at a ceremony on 4 December.
Visit the exhibition in the Main Gallery before 7 November to see the work of all six of our talented Platform nominees.
