The Phoenix Studio Award offers one year of support through rent–free studio space and other opportunities, to artists from under-represented groups and who experience intersecting forms of discrimination.

Developed in response to the need for affordable workspaces, the award aims to help artists to connect in a supportive studio environment. We want to facilitate creative possibilities, risk–taking, experimentation and exchange. As a Studio Award holder, the artist will be part of the wider network of artists at Phoenix Art Space. The award has been established to celebrate talent, individuality, and original thinking within contemporary art practice. It aims to increase and strengthen equitable representation and amplify artistic voices from underrepresented groups to fully reflect the diversity of Brighton and Hove’s population.

How to Apply

Please email the following to our Studio Manager laurenmason@phoenixartspace.org by the application deadline.

1. A completed application form
2. Documentation of your work:
– 6 x images of your recent work, sent as individual JPEGS (please name each file as YOUR NAME & TITLE OF WORK)

         OR If your work is video, film or performance based, you may send:

• A showreel video file
• A maximum of 3 x MP4 files
• A link to your video portal (e.g. Vimeo)/your website (please include passwords where necessary)

3. An artwork title title list (for your image/videos) including: TITLE, DATE, MEDIUM, SIZE

Timeline
Application Deadline: Monday 11 December 2023, 12pm
The successful artist will be notified by email by 13 December 2023
The studio will be available to the successful artist from January 2024
