Spotlight talks: Juliet Walters and Amanda Doughty

Talk

ABOUT

Spotlight is a strand of regular talks by artists at Phoenix Art Space. It enables Phoenix studio members to share their work/practice with the Phoenix community (fellow artists and friends) in an informal setting. This June we welcome Juliet Walters and Amanda Doughty to hear about their practices.

Juliet Walters and Amanda Doughty

Juliet is a ceramic artist based at Phoenix Art Space who will be sharing how she came to work with clay and how her practice has developed over time. She will reflect on process, influences and technique, including carving, burnishing, and smoke firing. She also offers a personal perspective on sustaining a creative practice within Brighton’s artistic community and how it has shaped her work over the years.

Amanda Doughty is a jeweller with a love of architecture, photography and details in the urban landscape. She is interested in repetition, shapes, colours, forms and texture, creating a unique collection of jewellery from these observations. Work is designed and made at the bench here at Phoenix Art Space.

Amanda works mainly with precious metals and stones. She is interested in using materials in a subtle, understated way to create work that is bold, confident and wearable.
