ABOUT

Spotlight is a regular series in which Phoenix Studio Artists showcase their artistic practice.

Tuesday 17 February 2026

Doors and Bar open: 18:00

Event: 18:15 – 20:30

Spotlight is a strand of regular talks by artists at Phoenix Art Space. It enables Phoenix studio members to share their work/practice with the Phoenix community (fellow artists and friends) in an informal setting. This February we welcome Denise Harrison and Marcelina Amelia to hear about their practices.

Denise is a landscape and figurative painter and published author. She holds a BA and MA in Painting. For this Spotlight, Denise will be talking about a body of figurative work which explores memory, loss and place using the rituals of the ‘Seven Sacraments’ that marked the milestones of her family’s life events and gatherings. Memories as well as photographs which document the time from her birth through to the death of her mother, are explored further with paint to the point where some events become re-imagine.

Marcelina Amelia is a multidisciplinary artist born in Częstochowa, Poland, and based in Brighton. Her practice spans painting, print, textile, photography, installation, video, and performance. Drawing from her Polish heritage, she explores migration, motherhood, mental health, feminism, spirituality, personal rituals, and dreams, and has exhibited internationally. Founder of the feminist art incubator Grupa Łono, member of the Rethinking Eastern Europe Collective, and in 2024 self-published book Mamalia, her work reflects a fascination with memory, both personal and collective, and the transformative power of storytelling.
