Project Space: DESIERTO HERIDO/SCORCHED EARTH

Exhibition

ABOUT

An exhibition of works from Chilean collective Laboratorio de Artes Gráficas del Desierto de Atacama exploring the ecological harm of extractivism.

Desierto Herido/Scorched Earth presents the textile art, graphic design and audio visual documentation of Laboratorio de Artes Gráficas del Desierto de Atacama . Large scale textile canvases, which have been installed in the spaces of Atacama Desert and the London docklands, posters and books, and audio visual art examines the visual codes of the Atacama Desert, scarred by mines and occupied by global extracivism. Yet, Laboratorio de Artes Gráficas del Desierto de Atacama argue that a fundamental relationship exists between its inhabitants and ‘las montañas, pampas y oasis’ which, through their art practice, they seek to defend.

Desierto Herido/Scorched Earth is part of a collaboration between Laboratorio de Artes Gráficas del Desierto de Atacama and Traces of Nitrate www.tracesofnitrate.orgTraces of Nitrate are working on a project called Frozen Future funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Laboratorio de Artes Gráficas del Desierto de Atacama by DIRAC, División de las Culturas, las Artes, el Patrimonio y Diplomacia Pública, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile.
