Join us at Phoenix Art Space for discussion, insights and a drink from 6pm, with Phoenix artists Ian Boutell and Oliver Murdock.

Ian Boutell

Wittgenstein said that when talking of Art, it was best to say nothing. That’s especially true if you do not paint representationally because you cannot talk about the objects you have depicted. Ian is a non-objective artist which would make this Spotlight a very quiet event if that advice was followed. Instead he will say how he got to where he now is, his architectural training, and the importance of teachers, influential artists and architects.

Oliver Murdock

Oliver Murdock is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brighton, known for his abstract works that delve into the complexities of mental health. Born in Halifax in 1995, Murdock’s artistic journey has been shaped by residencies, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. His practice integrates painting, printmaking, and sculpture to explore psychological experiences, often focusing on themes like intrusive thought patterns and the abstraction of language.
