ABOUT
The word ‘kaleidoscope’ means a continually changing arrangement or sequence of elements, or a diverse collection. It originates from the Ancient Greek words ‘kalos’ (beautiful), ‘eidos’ (form) and ‘skopeo’ (to examine).
Kaleidoscope is a collection of artwork produced by members of The Art Studio, a creative programme developed by artists Daniel Locke and Jenny Staff, and forensic psychologist Abby Fenton, in collaboration with the Probation Service and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT).
The Art Studio is a weekly meeting space for people on probation. The programme was established at Phoenix Art Space in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to improve mental health and reduce reoffending by providing participants with opportunities for social connection, creative expression, and a sense of belonging within the arts community.
By participating in The Art Studio programme members have the opportunity to develop their own creative practice in a supportive environment. Making and presenting work for exhibition is part of this process. This exhibition celebrates their collective journey and allows their individual voices to be heard.
